Love IS Kind! Are You Sweet or Sour?

Take a minute and think of someone who comes to your mind when you hear the words kind.

What attributes does this person have? For me, I can think of many special people who have shown me kindness. They are people who are very sensitive to the needs of others. They are people who reach out to me and others during difficult times. They are people who let others go first and live a sacrificial lifestyle.

I am a deaf person and that can be difficult some days. I can’t tell you what a blessing it is when people take the time to make sure I understand conversation. When they take the extra time and put forth the effort to help me be a part of whatever is going on at the moment.

God’s word says, “Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ has forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:32 (NASB) Are you kind? Are you tender-hearted? Are you forgiving? It is interesting that kindness in this scripture includes forgiveness.

How many times during the day does someone say or do something that really bothers us? How many times has someone been insensitive to us? Even those we love the most. Are we able to respond in a kind and forgiving way? I don’t know about you but it doesn’t always come easy or as the first response.

Everyday we are tested in this. Whether it is the person who cut us off on the road, the cashier in the store who didn’t go fast enough for our liking or the friend we found out was gossiping about us, we have a responsibility to love them with kindness and forgiveness. This does not mean we don’t address the issues or sins that were done against us but it does man we don’t treat them in a way that is dishonoring to God. We don’t go gossip about them because we heard what they said about us. We pray for the person who cut us off because we don’t know what type of day they are having, what they may have on their mind this morning, or if they know the Lord at all.

As you walk through your day today, look for ways to be kind to someone. That act of kindness may be the only example of Jesus Christ they have today. Is there someone you need to forgive today? Ask God to help you have the heart and the ability to forgive that person and be kind to them. Please share your story with us!! It is a great way to encourage each other!!

Heavenly Father, We ask you to give us opportunities to show kindness to someone who needs that today. We pray against bitter hearts, Lord and ask that You show us who we may need to forgive today. May we be able to do that in the power of the Holy Spirit. Let us love others like You today! In Jesus Name!
