Waiting Is An Action Word

I need to preface this blog post with the truth that I am writing this out of a season of seeking God in my own waiting time and not out of a place where I live this perfectly. So let’s get that out in the open right away.

Often we think of waiting times like when we are sitting in a Doctor’s office for an appointment. Where we are usually sitting in a chair with not much to do but grab a magazine or stare up at a clock, watching it move slowly from minute to minute.

It is a very boring type of waiting.

I guess I can give it to God that even though He makes us wait, He gives us much more to do in the waiting room than the Doctor does.

Today I want to talk about three actions we can take as we are in a waiting season.

SEEK GOD

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 (NSAB)

We can seek God continually. How do we seek God? We seek Him in prayer. We seek Him in His Word. We seek Him in worship. We seek Him as we are still before Him.

You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will restore your fortunes and will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will bring you back to the place from where I sent you into exile. Jeremiah 29:13-14

God’s word promises that when we seek Him with all our hearts, we will find Him. In those seasons when it feels like we can’t see or hear God, or when it seems as though God isn’t there when we seek Him, He will show Himself. He will remind us about who He is, who we are to Him and His promises to us.

WORSHIP

But as for me, I will hope continually,
And will praise You yet more and more.
My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness
And of Your salvation all day long;
For I do not know the sum of them.
I will come with the mighty deeds of the Lord GOD;
I will make mention of Your righteousness, Yours alone. Psalm 71:14-15

Sometimes it is hard to be hopeful while we are waiting, especially when these seasons last a long time. But God never changes. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The same God who rescued me out of the miry clay and placed me on the rock is still the same God who is in control of all things and every situation and circumstance in my life and in yours.

He gives strength to the weary,
And to him who lacks might He increases power.
Though youths grow weary and tired,
And vigorous young men stumble badly,
Yet those who wait for the LORD
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:29-31

As we worship while we wait, God promises to strengthen us and help us not grow weary and give up.

LIVE

Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon, ‘Build houses and live in them; and plant gardens and eat their produce. Take wives and become the fathers of sons and daughters, and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; and multiply there and do not decrease. Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf; for in its welfare you will have welfare.’ Jeremiah 29:4-7

While we wait, we need to keep living.

Many times the enemy tempts us to stop living fully. Sometimes depression, anxiety, or hopelessness takes over, and we struggle to take any steps forward because we feel stuck.

God wants us to keep moving forward, sometimes just one step at a time, one moment at a time, and in some seasons, it is one breath at a time.

It is not always easy, but it is essential.

God is so faithful in giving us His Word. He does not leave us alone, and He is with us through every season, even if it doesn’t feel like He is there. He truly has given us everything we need for this life.

If you are in a waiting season and it feels hard right now, we would love to be able to pray for you.

I encourage you to keep seeking God, even if He feels far away, especially if He feels far away. He promises you will find Him if you seek Him with your whole heart.

I encourage you to keep worshipping Him because He is our God, and He is worthy to be praised every day and in every season.

I encourage you to keep living, even if it is one breath at a time.

Don’t give up! I am cheering you on and praying for you. Pray for me too.
