A Creator’s Design
I struggle to remember things sometimes. Visual memories get lost easily for me, and I am usually only left with the emotions felt in the moment. A few memories are still as visually clear for me as they were when they happened.
Two of those memories that remain as clear as day are the memories of my children being placed in my arms and meeting them for the first time face to face.
I am fascinated with the miracle of birth. There is such a sense of awe and wonder of the whole process.
When I read in Genesis, when God created Adam and then Eve, I often wonder what that experience was like in that very moment. They weren’t babies, but they were the first new human life God had made.
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:26-27
The first truth about our identity is that God created us! He is our Creator.

God created us in His Image. We will dive a little deeper into what that means at another time.
Some of us have been told we were accidents or should never have been born, and I am here to tell you that is not the truth. That is a lie.
Nothing can take away that truth. God is our creator. He is the giver of life, and not only that, but He creates life with such detail and purpose.
For You formed my inward parts;
You wove me in my mother’s womb.
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;
Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Your book were all written
The days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them. Psalm 139:13-16
This scripture shows how personally and intentionally God has created us. That should confirm how special we are to God.
The enemy uses other people, the world around us, and anything else He can use to cause us to forget this truth. Even as I write this, my heart is being reminded more profoundly. God is causing this truth to go deeper into my being.

I sit and ponder where I lost this or did I ever really understand this truth at all? I have always believed in God as Creator, in a general sense, but personalizing it this way is a whole other level of meaning.
Sometimes, this truth gets lost when we pick apart ourselves, or others pick apart the way God has created us. When we are unhappy with how God has created us or think how we were made was wrong or terrible, it takes away any joy we can find in this truth.
We begin believing the lies the enemy throws our way, and we start tearing apart ourselves, and more importantly, we are telling God His creation stinks, in so many words.
Are you familiar with this struggle?
I have been in this battle for years. You are in good company.
We are created by God. Uniquely and intentionally. That is amazing!

Not only are we created by God, but we are also created with a purpose. We are not made just to live our lives and die. We are given brains, bodies, and personalities for specific things God has called us to do. We go through experiences, so we might share with others to not feel so alone.
God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food”; and it was so. Genesis 1:28-30
He created Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply, to fill the earth. He made them rule over all of the earth and everything in it.
How has God created you? How does your brain work, how does it process things? Do all of your senses function? Are you short or tall? What type of personality do you have? Are you introverted or extroverted?
Take some time this week to think about the truth that God created you. He put personal and intentional care into creating you. Take time to thank Him for that and for the ways He has created you.
Many times, especially as women, we get caught up in comparison. We look at each other and wish we were more like someone else or have been spoken to with words that have left us feeling we weren’t good enough the way God created us. We tear each other down to build ourselves up.
Take some time this week to build a sister up. Share with a friend something you appreciate in them. If someone you know is struggling to see themselves the way God created them, take some time to encourage them.
It is a beautiful thought to think that our Heavenly Father loves us so much that He created us, both intentionally and with purpose. When our identities have been shattered, and we struggle to know who we are and our worth, I pray we remember this truth. Instead of allowing comparisons and other voices to bring us into people-pleasing places, let’s hold on to this truth and seek God about how He wants to use all those wonderful things He has put in us for His purpose and His glory.
Heavenly Father, we praise You for who You are as our creator. We thank You for loving us and creating us with beauty, intentionality, and purpose. Help us see ourselves through Your eyes and the lens of Your truth. Renew our minds and restore our hearts, and may we be an instrument in someone else’s life to encourage them with this truth. In Jesus Name! Amen!

Looking in the mirror the other day I thought something negative – then I apologized and laughed telling God “I’m wonderfully made!”

Love this reminder of how special we all are to Him! No one can do what you do when you do what you do for Jesus! We are all unique and cherished!!
